On 23 May 2024, a press conference was held in Washington, United States of America to launch the second phase of The Safe Air On Airplanes Act, as explained in the 27-minute video below.
Rep. Frost and Others Hold on Airplane Safety Legislation
Reps. Maxwell Frost (D-FL), Mike Lawler (R-NY), and John Garamendi (D-CA) spoke with reporters about new airplane safety legislation to protect cabin crew and passengers.

For the bill to reach this point it has taken five long years and an incredible amount of effort and hard work from the Congressmen involved, for which we thank them.
The major concern now is, will it take another five years to reach the end of the next phase before any action is taken to bring an end to the poisoning of people onboard aircraft?
What will be done in the interim to protect passengers and crew?
Some of the most telling comments on the issue were made by Congressman Garamendi, towards the end of the video at around the 25-minute mark with reference to the problems encountered during the first phase of the legislation:
“The Airline Industry and Manufacturers fought every step of the way. It’s the best we could do after five years of effort.”
And…
“An intermediate step we tried to get in the legislation but were unsuccessful is to put in place air quality monitoring systems that would be monitoring the air on an ongoing basis, moment by moment while that airplane was in the sky.
We were unable to get that in because of the opposition of the airline industry and the manufacturers. But the problem is real, the problem is very, very real for passengers and even more so for the cabin crews.”
The problem is indeed very real and putting air quality monitors onboard aircraft would confirm exactly how real it is, hence the industry opposing it.
The U.S. is at least, strides ahead of the U.K. and Europe who continue to deny there’s a problem. One may ask how the U.K. and Europe can continue denying the problem?
The thing is, they already know how dangerous it is to breathe contaminated air, particularly in the confines of a pressurized, unique environment with no means of escape. They also know the safety implications.
Likely, they will just continue until they are forced to do something because there’s so much at stake financially.
As mentioned in our previous update, the aviation industry is so heavily subsidized by the EU, European, and U.K. Governments that it’s difficult to see where the aviation industry ends and governments begin.
This is because of the financial investment our governments have made and the number of 'partnerships' they have entered into with the aviation industry, including the EU's commitment of almost €10 billion to clean air initiatives for the aircraft of the future.
What about the present?

Within that €10 billion EU funding is the Clean Sky 2 project.

There are also details of the Electrical Environmental Control System (EECS) for future aircraft.

Thanks to our fellow Aerotoxic campaigners in France, this document was recently made available. It’s the patent from Liebherr who is working on the EECS project with Airbus in Toulouse.
On page 2 of the document between numbers 20 and 25 on the left-hand side, it states:
‘Enfin, un autre problème réside dans le fait que l’air bleed, préléve sur un compresseur d’un moteur propulsif de l’aeronef, forme la source d’air de conditionnement de sort qu’une contamination de l’air préléve sur la moteurs est transmise à la cabine, ce qui peut être dangereux pour la santé des passagers notamment.’
Which in English reads:
‘Finally, another problem lies in the fact that the bleed air, taken from a compressor of one of the aircraft's propulsion engines, forms the source of conditioning air so that any contamination of the air taken from the engine is transmitted to the cabin, which can be dangerous for the health of passengers in particular.’
And even more so, for the health of pilots and cabin crew continually
exposed in their workplace.

Note: At least there are some honest people at Liebherr who know the truth and published it.
It was similar to Boeing in 2007 when highlighting the benefits of the Boeing 787:
‘The Boeing 787 will have a no-bleed architecture for the outside air supply to the cabin. This architecture eliminates the risk of engine oil decomposition products from being introduced in the cabin supply air in the rare event of a failed engine compressor seal. In addition, this architecture improves fuel efficiency, thus reducing fuel burn and associated engine emissions.”

We have confirmation in writing from the U.K. AAIB that fume events are
‘not infrequent’.
When it suits the industry to tell the truth about contaminated air in aircraft, they will. The rest of the time they play down the dangers and risks.
Despite taking 5 years to bring more details on the Safe Air On Airplanes Act to the public with the launch of the second phase, it’s clear the momentum is growing and at some point, the scandal about the contaminated air we breathe in aircraft will be exposed.

Important topic! Not discussed nearly enough. Thank you for reporting!
Compressed air from the front of the engine at high altitude is very much better than what you breathe at your home. There are a lot of weasel words in this article and where are the specifics?
