Flight Emergency before Take-Off due to Toxic Fumes
A brand new Airbus-Neo producing toxic fumes in the cabin
Aviation Source* reports that on August 7th, 2024 British Airways flight BA650 returned to stand at Heathrow, followed by the fire service due to toxic fumes filling the cabin.
RadarBox.com data shows that G-TTNX, British Airways' month-old Airbus A320neo, was grounded overnight following the ground incident at London Heathrow (LHR). Another source on X.
It returned to commercial service over 24 hours later. And no surprise there, I’m pretty sure they found “nothing”. As usual. Until it happens again. And again.
"Technology itself is a means and a tool. What makes technology good or bad is the people who create and use it." Max Messmer
Also on August 7th:
A Delta Airlines Airbus A330-900, registration N401DZ, operating flight DL-224 from Boston, MA (USA) to Paris Charles de Gaulle (France), was climbing out of Boston when the crew reported fumes in the cabin. The aircraft returned to Boston and landed safely on runway 04R approximately 85 minutes after departure. (First reported by Aviation Herald) - check out more examples at Aviation Herald below:

… and so it goes on and on—long lists of toxic fume events - not one month goes by without.
How useful is an Aircraft Cabin Air Conference?
For this September yet another ‘Aircraft Cabin Air Conference’ has been announced. The fifth since 2017. According to their website they: “… provide an in-depth overview and update for those interested in the subject of contaminated air on aircraft, the flight safety implications, the latest research into the contaminated air debate and the solutions available to airlines and aircraft operators.” (sic)
Their growing list of industrial sponsors surprises me, as it seems to include BASF of all firms. It is the largest chemical industry company in the world, and its logo reads "We Create Chemistry"—possibly meant to sound nice—but there is absolutely no chemistry between them and myself or the many other medically retired aircrew members who were forced to quit their beloved jobs due to health issues brought on by prolonged exposure to the toxic fumes mentioned above. While I do not believe that they are “producing” the cabin fumes, they do manufacture an excessive amount of hazardous chemicals, such as herbicides, pesticides, insecticides (which are, by the way, also sprayed onboard to certain countries), and numerous other very poisonous, cancerogenic, fertility and endocrine damaging substances. Their past is fascinating as well. This small excerpt says it all, but I have linked the long version for your pleasure:
“During World War I, BASF became a major supplier of chlorine gas and phosgene gas. They also provided intermediate products (such as ethylene dichloride and thiodiglycol) to be further processed into mustard gas. The exact number of victims of toxic gases is difficult to trace, but it is certain that by the end of the war in 1918, thousands of soldiers had perished due to gas poisoning." (sic Source)
I wonder if they even care. Or is that a stupid question? I guess just as much (or little) as the aircraft manufacturing industry does and of course, their influential customers, the airlines. Nothing whatsoever has been done to date to correct the problem of toxic fumes that enter the aircraft cabin breathing air via the engines but talk and denial, and of course sponsored studies that regularly come to the same conclusion: nothing health-damaging to see here. Find all the information in my previous articles and on my website.
Will talk and fancy presentations once again discuss BASF's sale of filters that are promoted as filtering ".. ozone and VOCs," but in reality do not filter every component of the recognized fumes. They sponsor the conference. Then there’s NYCO "Partner of Airlines," which also sponsors the Aircraft Cabin Air Conference, which has produced a new type of engine oil. They claim that their oil contains a "less neurotoxic" ingredient in place of the controversial tri-cresyl phosphate additive. “Less neurotoxic” is not good enough!
Then there’s PTI, another "filtration solution" firm, that has joined as a sponsor, and PALL Aerospace, a company that hasn't offered "filtration solutions" in decades, is also a sponsor. And not to forget yet another company, CTT Systems, this one sells humidifiers for onboard stating “Humidifier 0nboard is simply better for people”. Humidifiers? Do they remove toxic fumes?
Last but not least: We have also been patiently waiting for a blood test to confirm exposure to the toxins; we have been waiting for this for more than ten years. Grand announcements of "new blood test to be presented" are made public before each Aircraft Cabin Air Conference, and then we learn during the conference that alas! the research could not be finalized because of a lack of funding. "Please donate" is also included. Again. This time, will the promise be kept?
In the end, it’s always about money, isn’t it?
In the meantime affected passengers and staff members, trapped in their predicament, aimlessly wander from doctor to expert to therapist and back, still not obtaining enough professional support or appropriate medical care that treat the complicated sickness known as Aerotoxic Syndrome.
